Any man can be strong and brave, but does that mean he is a hero.

Macbeth is clearly a hero because of his acts in the beginning of act I, described by the other characters how heroically Macbeth performed in Battle in defense of his king’s land.

Odysseus' great intellectual capacity gets him out of even the most life threatening situations.

An Anglo-Saxon hero is a person who has good leadership qualities, is able and willing to provide people with a sense of security, and is willing to go into danger despite possible harm to themselves.

This is not what makes him a hero.

Tested with even the toughest obstacles, Odysseus still led a heroic victory.

In this time where the afterlife is uncertain, and familiarity is only known to a name, true heroism is the only assurance of identity and remembrance....

Perhaps it should be rephrased: who is a hero.

Heroes all share the characteristic of their willingness to die in their effort to accomplish their heroic act, thus making the act in itself heroic....

Clearly, it is easy to list off the heroes in these ancient poems.

Beowulf and Sir Gawain will be compared on the hero archetype characteristics of being better than the ordinary man, proving oneself many times, and having a tragic flaw....

In the poem Beowulf, Beowulf is an epic hero.

A good conclusion could be: Odysseus’s travels are metaphores for the trials and tribulations that everyone goes through in life. We all have our own Charobodys and cyclops but if we are clever and think through our problems. And if we don’t give up and keep our eyes on the prize then nothing can stop us. And we will be better, stronger people for it and enjoy the prize all that much more.

The poem gives the idea of what a hero really is.

Beowulf establishes himself as a hero by fighting the dragon, exemplifing strength and courage when fighting the dragon, and sacrificing himself so that others can live....
